The Scorpions have been around since 1969, undergoing lineup shifts and the vagaries of rock n' roll, cranking out power ballads and stinging arena rockers the entire time. Singer/guitarist Rudolf Schenker put the band together in Hannover, Germany, in the Summer of Love, 1969, and two years later, Klaus Meine came on board as the group's vocalist. The group had success in Europe and Japan before Animal Magnetism, released in 1980, finally caught the attention of American metalheads. But it was in 1984 that the Scorpions dropped Love at First Sting, spearheaded by "Rock You Like a Hurricane," that they truly came into their hair-metal own. In 1990, Crazy World, featuring the ballad "Wind of Change," became the Scorps' biggest seller, and though the band's popularity dipped in the mid-90s and the new millennium, the Scorpions have soldiered on, issuing Unbreakable in 2004 and a DVD, 1 Night in Vienna, in '06.
