  • DNA examination - Europe Who are we - This is incredibly

  • Descrição do Vídeo: Who were our ancestors? From where do we originate? Most people can trace their family tree back no further than three or four generations. Thanks to genetic analysis, however, it is possible to look back into millennia long past. The story of our ancestors is probably one of the most exciting of all time. It is the story of mankind. For decades the only evidence available to anthropologists and archaeologists were the small amount of bones and objects left behind by our ancestors. Hence, it was not possible to really prove the various theories of evolution. It is only in the past 20 years that researchers have been able to use the DNA of living people as a means of finding evidence of the migrations of their primeval ancestors. DNA is identical to a degree of 99.9 percent for all people. The remaining 0.1% is the source of individual differences (such as eye colour, certain risks of disease, or deviations with no apparent function). DNA-Genealogy makes it possible for you to research your family tree with the most modern methods. It makes fast and exact research into your family history possible, whether as your first venture into researching your ancestry or as a supplement to traditional genealogy. Where traditional research into your ancestry examines birth, marriage, and death certificates, a simple saliva sample is all that's needed for DNA-Genealogy. That's because each of us carries with us the most important and exact set of files needed: our DNA. What is DNA? DNA is a molecule, that contains the genetic instructions for all of the functions and substances of the human body. It looks like a spiral staircase. Each stair step is made up of two bases. There are four different bases: Guanine, Thymine, Cytosine and Adenine. If you envision the bases as coloured Lego pieces, then there would be four colours and each step would be two-coloured. The total DNA of a human being is called a genome. It contains the genetic instructions for all of the functions and substances of this body. We inherit the genome from our ancestors. It is re-combined in each generation from the genes of our parents, so that genetic traces gradually get lost.

  • letter

  • Descrição do Vídeo: letter example for music copyright clearance... Ms. Yoko Ono December 25, 2008 Dear Yoko Ono, In the mid 1970's, as a young Danish college student in America doing a Buddhist retreat on Montauk Point in Long Island, I met you and John on the beach, but of course, kept my distance out of respect. I now need your permission to use a work of music from long ago Now as a Danish anthropologist and PTSD therapist, I've made, in the spirit of Buddhist Metta, a short video for several good reasons, not the least being the unprecedented urgency many feel in Denmark to change our Danish government and to encourage President-elect Barak Obama to chose wisely the next US ambassador to Denmark. The 20-minute video explains why this is so urgent, in terms of the man AP Møller (Mærsk), who since Vietnam... and actually the German Occupation of WWII, earns his fleeting wealth only from capitalizing on the suffering in the world, thus engendering it further, which I then deal directly with, with individuals trying to survive great trauma, now without the compassion of our socialized and unfortunately xenophobic system. We are all too close to a serious world war, as the breaking Indian/Pakistan events from Mumbai are expressing... (which is how I dedicate the video). The video is a truly compromised effort on my part, compared to the great productions in the world. I often employ John Lennon's music in my office to help battered women recover from their lifetimes of rape, mental and physical, in our patriarchal world. And have intuitively felt and been immensely grateful for - the importance of your music in bridging the horrors in our worlds with the unlimited potentials of the human heart to heal all that. I understand that this request comes out of the blue, but we would so appreciate your permission to use your music in the way we have produced this primitive video. The video is located here: http://globaltherapy.blip.tv, http://www.youtube.com/globaltherapy only as a global edit effort between Denmark, Greece and many in the USA. I have disabled all google search functions in it, but may turn them on soon due to hospitalization and the impending choice of the next US ambassador to Denmark. It has only available to those who are directly involved in its final editing stages and who have this address. I am also contacting Enya, Bob Dylan and Dion's estate. This is completely non-profit, and is being produced entirely from my own resources. But the mythological, historic, journalistic and scientific information being transmitted through the video's appeal to human nature's intuitive heart is critical. It has never been assembled in this way before, to my knowledge. And I believe we are at a rather critical juncture in human evolution. We're either going to get it right in the near-future, or nature both human and the Earth will hurl us at least into a rather dark age. Though I personally am optimistic. But human beings seem to have such a short memory, when it comes to such issues. Your music has always felt like the most beautiful bridging of that human capacity to draw on the resources within our collective unconscious and its healing capacity, both individually and globally. In 1994, I was awarded a Ben & Jerry's Foundation prize for my work with women survivors of ritual sexual abuse. • One Anthropologists Journey of Discovery - Part 1

  • Descrição do Vídeo: Bonnie Glass-Coffin, Ph.D. Bonnie Glass-Coffin first became widely-known beyond the academic world of anthropology with the publication of The Gift of Life: Female Spirituality and Healing in Northern Peru, exploring the role of curanderas in their communities. She knew from the ancient Moche and Chimu sculptures of women as healers and shamans, that women have historically played a large role in the healing arts of the region. In writing and research, she explores the concepts of healing, shamanism, sorcery, plant medicines, and gender in Peru and Ecuador. She has published numerous anthropological articles and teaches at Utah State University, where she organized a major conference in 2000, "Body, Mind, and Spirit: Culture and Health in America." She founded and directs an ethnographic field school that meets in Huanchaco, Peru each summer. She has received numerous awards for her research and for her teaching, including the prestigious CASE/Carnegie Foundation award as Teacher of the Year -- and brings an infectious excitement to her ground-breaking work.

But Finn's dreams are shattered when he is arrested in a desperate effort to help his drug-dependent mother, Liz, who scrapes by working as a masseuse. Determined to get their lives back on track, Liz moves the two of them into a guest house on the vast country estate of her ex-client, the aging aristocratic billionaire, Ogden C. Osbourne. In Osbourne's close world of privilege and power, Finn and Liz encounter a tribe fiercer and more mysterious than anything they might find in the South American jungle: the super rich. While Liz battles her substance abuse and struggles to win back her son's love and trust, Finn falls in love with Osbourne's beautiful granddaughter, Maya, befriends her charismatic older brother, Bryce, and even wins the favor of Osbourne himself. • Where did God come from

  • Descrição do Vídeo: Who hasnt, as a child, asked the most difficult of all questions: Where did God come from? Perhaps we can learn something by looking at the history of the concept of God and monotheism. Anthropologists have found what they believe to be the remains of graves of Neolithic Man which suggest the belief in an afterlife. The graves contain what seem to a collection of the deceaseds belongings: spear points, necklaces, charms, etc. Perhaps because these were things he would need in the next world. Based on these graves, it has been suggested that even Neolithic man had a belief in spirits; a religion of sorts. But, in essence, burial of the dead with all his belongings was simply good hygiene. Taboos such as the proper burial of the dead were more than superstitious beliefs. They were a means to protect the Tribe, based on generations of experience. Ancient man must have learned through trial and error that not burying the dead could have dire consequences for the tribe. What we today would identify as a virus or bacteria in a time before electron microscopes and DNA research was called Evil Spirits. The belief system that grew up out of a web of taboos and behavior based on Spirits and the Dead grew more complex with time. With time, witch doctors and Shaman were replaced with a full-fledged Priest class, who became the medium between the Living and the Dead. The Egyptian Book of the Dead details exactly how to mummify a body, and what the spirit would experience in the Netherworld. And, then as now, various religions vied for power and dominance. One such spirit, or god, of the early Egyptians was called Amen. According to the Priests for this Egyptian god Amen, he was the Creator, who existed before other gods and man. Obviously, the more powerful their god, the more powerful the Amen Priests became. As Egyptian power spread from the Nile Delta to the South and to the East, the Egyptians took their gods with them. Many temples to Amen were throughout conquered Nubia (Sudan), Palestine and Syria. The primitive Hebrew shepherds of Palestine took the Egyptian Amen, the Great Father of all Gods, as their own. Christianity and Islam grew up as off shoots of the Hebrew religion. When you hear Amen at the end of prayers, it is the same Amen that has been worshiped 4,500 years. Thus, todays major monotheistic religions: Christianity and Islam, which together claim 3 billion adherents, can be traced back to the taboos and practices of Neolithic man on how to deal with the dead. That mystery the ancients were calling a Spirit, and which later developed into a monotheistic belief system based God", was perhaps in the beginning simply a very deadly virus.

  • Teens and Public Art: A Community Mural in Waltham, MA

  • Descrição do Vídeo: Anthropologist Mark Auslander, Director of the M.A. Program in Cultural Production at Brandeis University, discusses his graduate seminar's collaborative project with a group of teens in Waltham Massachusetts in Fall 2007, through the Boys and Girls Club. The adolescents developed a mural design that initially disturbed the members of the graduate seminar--through its frank depiction of the teens' fears and anxieties. In time, however, we all came to understand the importance of their innovative visual design, which we came to appreciate in light of our readings in object relations theory.
