Descrição do Vídeo: "Arnold Layne" was the first single released by British Psychedelic rock group Pink Floyd, shortly after landing a recording contract with EMI. The song was written by Syd Barrett, Pink Floyd's co-founder and original front man. Although not included on the band's debut album, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn (though it is included on the bonus disc of the CD version), many consider "Arnold Layne" to be one of the finest psychedelic pop songs of its time. The song The song's title character is a transvestite whose primary pastime is stealing women's clothes and undergarments from washing lines. According to Roger Waters, "Arnold Layne" was actually based on a real person, and that this person routinely stole underwear from the mothers of Barrett and Waters during their childhood days in Cambridge. However, despite finding a place in the Top 20, the song's unusual transvestism theme attracted the ire of Radio London, which deemed the song too far-removed from "normal" society for its listeners before eventually banning it from radio airplay altogether.[1] Producer Norman Smith wanted the band to re-record the Joe Boyd-produced song after they had signed up with EMI. While Waters and keyboardist Richard Wright were willing to do this, Barrett, on the other hand, was entirely satisfied with the existing studio cut, and argued against recording another version. Attempts were made to re-record the song at the insistence of EMI (who at the time only wanted to use in-house producers) but, perhaps due to Barrett's indifference to doing so, the re-recordings never got very far and the Boyd-produced session was used. Boyd mentioned in several interviews over the years that "Arnold Layne" regularly ran for 10 to 15 minutes in concert (with extended instrumental passages), but the band knew that it had to be shortened for use as a single. A black and white promotional film of "Arnold Layne" was made the same year, and featured members of Pink Floyd dressing up a mannequin before showing it around a beach. Recently, an alternative promotional film was unearthed, which featured the band goofing around in a forest and in front of a church. It is also the only known footage of Syd Barrett lip synching to the song. Reports of a large bang and flashing lights skimming across the sky on the night a turbine on Conisholme wind farm was damaged have been told. Mr Stephen Willows and his wife, Dorothy who live in Fen Lane close to the Conisholme wind farm have told the Leader how Stephen was startled in his sleep by a loud bang at 4am Sunday morning. It is believed the damage which has left one of the massive blades missing and another bent out of shape happened at some point on Sunday night. They also reported how on Saturday night, Dorothy and two friends were travelling to Louth by car, when Dorothy looked up at the sky to see lights travelling in a strange fashion across the sky towards the wind farm. Dorothy said: "I don't believe in UFO's but it was a low flying object. This light seemed to be in the distance, and then it seemed to skim across the sky towards the turbines. "It might not be connected, but it is just how your mind works when something like this happens you think, could that have been the noise Stephen heard, or was that to do the light I saw? But until we know what has happened for definite it is very hard to say". The couple went to the scene to have a closer look, and like many residents, take photographs of the damage. But, when they arrived at the scene, they were shocked to find they had little evidence to go on. "When we got there, there was nothing to be seen - not even the propeller on the ground" added Dorothy. "Those blades are pretty sturdy we saw them when they were being constructed whatever has hit them has made quite an impact. I was shocked to see that there was no debris left". The company, Ecotricity have since sent engineers down to establish the cause of the damage to the turbine. Wednesday 3.20pm - THE mystery of the 'tentacle UFO' seen before the wind turbine at Conisholme was damaged has deepened. Now Coun Robert Palmer, Chairman of East Lindsey District Council, has stepped forward to say he too saw a strange light in the sky the night before the turbine blade fell off. He was travelling in a car and saw a light in the sky above the Conisholme wind farm. He said: "There was definitely something there." John Harrison from Saltfleetby has already told us how he saw a 'massive ball of light' with 'tentacles going right down to the ground'ver the wind farm on Saturday night. The next morning locals discovered a blade on one of the 89 metre high wind turbines has broken off and another blade was badly dented. Dorothy and Stephen Willows also saw strange lights on Saturday night which seemed to skim across the sky towards the turbines. Dorothy said: "I don't believe in UFO's, but there was a low flying object. This light looked to be in the distance, and then it seemed to skim across the sky towards the turbines." Stephen was woken by a 'large, loud bang that sounded like thunder' at 4am on Sunday morning. A team of experts from Ecotricity are investigating what caused the damage and say there is no danger to the public. Meanwhile, our reports of the UFO sightings and the damage to wind turbine have spread like wildfire across the world wide web. One website has posted an image of an 'octopus UFO' along with the report and others are getting messages from people about the damage. One message posted on a website says: "Space Squid covert operatives working for Big Oil, destroying alternative energy sources. Sounds reasonable to me." Another says: "There are plans to build a wind turbine on the edge of the village where I live in Leicestershire so I will be keeping an eye out for any UFO activity once it is built!" Descrição do Vídeo: Patrick Swayze Fights Cancer With Wife's Support Exclusive Interview: Swayze Tells Barbara Walters He Will Live, Not 'Chase Staying Alive' Patrick Swayze has been aggressively fighting stage 4 pancreatic cancer for the last year but said he hasn't let the battle take over his life. "One thing I'm not gonna do is chase staying alive," Swayze told Barbara Walters in his first interview since the diagnosis last year. "You spend so much time chasing staying alive, you won't live." The 56-year-old-actor, beloved for his role in the film "Dirty Dancing," said he and wife Lisa Niemi still find time to dance together. And a few months ago, on the spur of the moment, they decided to renew their vows. "We did it very Prince Charming and Snow White. I rode in on a snorting steed, white stallion" Swayze recalled. "It was like a fairy tale," Niemi said. "One of the happiest days ever." Watch Barbara Walters' exclusive interview with Patrick Swayze TONIGHT at 10 p.m. ET In addition to traditional cancer treatments, Swayze has taken some "specific immune system Chinese herbs," but says he hasn't tried many alternative therapies because he learned that if "you feed your body, you feed the insatiable voracious appetite of the cancer." The chemotherapy did not make Swayze lose his hair. "I kind of lucked out," he said. Swayze said that in the year since his diagnosis, he had defied the statistics and "trash magazines" that predicted he should have "already been dead a long time," but he acknowledged that time may be running out. "I'd say five years is pretty wishful thinking," he told Walters. "Two years seems likely if you're going to believe statistics. I want to last until they find a cure, which means I'd better get a fire under it." The actor said he's waging his battle against cancer "moment to moment." "When do you decide the fight isn't matching up to your quality of life?" he asked. "So far, I've got potential for a lot of quality of life." Swayze asked his oncologist, Dr. George Fisher, to describe his cancer so he could visualize the enemy he was fighting. That helped him endure the painful side effects of the chemotherapy, such as "colinitis and seriously inflamed bowels ... when I'd be laying on a bathroom mat curled up ... going, 'You son of a -- you're not gonna beat me.'" Swayze responded well to his first round of chemotherapy, but as is common, that treatment eventually became less effective, so he recently began a new therapy. "You can bet that I'm going through hell," Swayze said, but he vowed to keep fighting. "I'm at the beginning of my battle. And I expect it to be a long hard battle, one that I'm gonna win according to certain rules the rules that the cancer isn't going away. Now, mind you, I keep my heart and my soul and my spirit open to miracles. I pray."
